My Chole Chaat Board is inspired by the Butter Board trend. The butter board is essentially soft butter that’s spread on a cutting board and topped with veggies, fruits, spices, or pretty much anything you want. Quite honestly, none of the non-Indian butter boards appealed to me until I saw the Pav Bhaji Butter Board. I mean, I just love Pav Bhaji like there is no tomorrow, it is my favorite Indian street food. So unless it’s the Pav Bhaji Butter Board, I’m not really into the actual “butter” trend.

What is the Chole Chaat Board?

So what exactly is the Chole Chaat Board? It’s just like the butter board, but instead of butter, I used Punjabi Chole. By now, I hope you guys have tried my authentic and delicious Punjabi Chole. Top off the chole with all the chaat ingredients – red onions, tomatoes, green chilies, green chutney, tamarind chutney, sev, cilantro, pomegranate, and chat masala. Then serve your Chole Chaat Board with naan or mini buns. You can also serve the board with chips and crackers. This board makes a delicious appetizer for a large group and especially for Diwali.

Ingredients

Punjabi Chole – sharing my recipe for chole – it’s so good. Cilantro Chutney – sharing my recipe for green chutney. Tamarind Chutney – I just use store-bought. Red Onions – chopped. Tomatoes – make sure to squeeze out the liquid and chop. Green Chilies – finely chop green chilies. Fresh Cilantro – chopped. Sev – use the fine kind of sev or the one that’s used in bhel. Pomegranate – perfect little jewels that make any dish look festive. Naan – heat them up on a castiron skillet with some butter, cut into thirds, and serve with chole chaat.

Substitutions

If you’re not a fan of chole, you can prepare this chaat with the Punjabi Rajma Masala instead. Even if your reader doesn’t follow a specific diet (eg. gluten free), they may have friends or family that they’re cooking for that could use this. This is also a great idea to link out to another blogger with a similar recipe that fits a different diet.
